What makes up a badminton birdie?
Feathers, cork, leather, plastic, rubber, and glue are the main materials.

However, this is only for feathered birdies. Synthetic birdies also include nylon.
Unfortunately, neither decomposes easily, taking decades and sometimes centuries.

They also don't last long in play, becoming unusable after just 10-15 hours. That's a lot of birdies going straight to the landfill!

Seeing this problem in our community, at BirdieUP Canada, we decided to take action.

With the help of our youth volunteers,

we transform discarded birdies into upcycled keychains with old art materials!

We then sell them to raise proceeds for various charitable organizations, such as the WWF and Canadian Royal Legion.

Our goal is to help youth, the environment, and practice sustainability with our artistic efforts!

Thus far, we have raised over C$1000! We have been also recognized with the National Youth Climate Activism Award.

Make sure to connect with us to stay updated on our journey to helping the environment, and if you're interested, to donate or volunteer!
